Direct Electron has been transforming electron microscopy for nearly a decade

Direct Electron was founded in 2007 with the specific aim of developing and delivering ultra-high performance cameras for electron microscopy (EM).

Our vision—Innovation Propelling Discovery—focuses our effort on our customers. We combine relevant technological innovation with unique features and a commitment to an unprecedented level of customer service. Ultimately, our technology empowers customers to achieve better science, faster.

Our pioneering Direct Detection Device (DDD®) camera technology expands the frontiers of what is possible and gives our customers a competitive edge.

Direct Electron continues to aggressively push the boundaries of EM camera technology. Our research and development springs out of partnerships between public organizations, academia, and industry. For example, our pioneering Direct Detection Device was developed in collaboration with the University of California San Diego (UCSD) with generous support from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Custom DDD SensorOur sensors are custom designed and manufactured, and are only available in our cameras. In our DE-Series Cameras also include two sensors for the price of one: the main DDD sensor and a survey sensor to set up experiments. Besides the cost savings, this means a longer life for the main sensor. Plus it’s more convenient — no switching back and forth between cameras.

Besides our technology, another integral part of the DE value equation includes ongoing application support, free remote software updates, an ever-growing library of image processing and automation scripts, open-source software, improved experimental methods, and application notes (all free to customers).
