High-efficiency Lens Coupling

High-efficiency lens-coupling eliminates many drawbacks of fiber optic coupling including electron back-scattering, image distortions and artifacts, and light scattering, while still maintaining single-electron sensitivity.   Low-cost lens-coupled systems don’t provide either the efficiency or image quality of the LC-1100.
Lens-coupling is preferred for intermediate and high voltage TEM where damage to fused fiber optic bundles degrades image quality over time.

Magnification

A large 9cm by 9cm field-of-view is de-magnified to optimally match a 6cm by 6cm CCD, better matching the point spread in the scintillator to the pixel pitch of the CCD.  The result is full 4K by 4K resolution, essentially no distortion, and high brightness uniformity across the image.  The high geometric accuracy of the LC-1100 facilitates the creation of very large mosaic images, and unlike other 4K by 4K cameras where 2 by 2 binning is the norm, the LC-1100 captures high-frequency detail well beyond the half-Nyquist frequency.




Interchangeable Scintillator

A self-supporting thin-film scintillator minimizes image quality degrading electron back-scatter.  Easy interchangeability allows selection of a  scintillator for a particular accelerating voltage and specimen type, optimizing sensitivity & resolution for specific conditions.
